About Rick McPhail
I’m Rick McPhail, owner/operator of Skyview Droneworx. I’ve recently retired after roughly 45 years of work and I’ve created this 1-person venture to do aerial photography and videography to keep me busy in my retirement years.
I’ve had a very interesting career that started with being a signals intelligence analyst during my enlisted time in the Air Force. The Air Force then decided to send me back to college to finish my degree and make me a commissioned officer. When I returned to active duty, they trained me to be a manned spaceflight officer and I worked on 20 Space Shuttle missions. Upon separation from the Air Force, I worked as an Engineering Manager on the design of the International Space Station. After a major NASA budget reduction, I went to work in the cell phone tower industry, finding locations for new towers, getting all the permits required to build a new tower, completing all the environmental and regulatory studies, getting the towers designed and then turning them over for construction. I’ve done that work for thousands of towers all over the continental US.
My wife bought me a drone a few years ago and I’ve flown it recreationally, but with retirement approaching I decided to get my FAA Part 107 Certification so I could fly commercially.
